Rotary Track Meet
Rotary Track Meet Co-Chairs, Randy Bettich and Renee Borah
In 1958, the Rotary Club of St. Joseph-Benton Harbor sponsored its first Rotary Track Meet. Celebrating 61 years this year the event, coordinated by Rotarians, attracts athletes from as many as 15-20 high schools of all sizes and hundreds of students from Southwest Michigan and has become the largest track meet in the state. During the closing ceremony of each event, competitors are awarded medals and Scholarship Recipients are recognized.

In 1977, a Scholarship Committee was formed to annually select 4 Rotary Track Meet Scholarships that would be made available to graduating seniors from Berrien County high schools. Scholarship recipients are selected under the rules of Rotary Club Executive Board criteria for selection; Participation in Track and Field events and other athletic achievement; Good character endorsed by high school faculty and as evidenced by activities and the Scholarship Committee interview; Potential for college success based on 2.75 or higher GPA, 60 or higher ACT college-bound percentile; Expectations to participate in Track and Field in college (not required) and; Contributions to school and community, extracurricular activities, volunteer activities, and employment experience.
